The COVID-19 public health and economic crisis has further harmed people of color and others who were struggling to survive on incomes that were too low already. The impact of the loss of jobs and wages can be seen most clearly in the estimate that over 300,000 New Jersey renters may lose their homes over the next few months. While the statewide eviction moratorium prevents actual evictions for a little while longer, that doesn't prevent eviction court proceedings from moving forward and landlords from adding stress to already overwhelmed and scared families that they will be evicted.
