ENVIRONMENT - Straw Free December
Submitted by Kate Triggiano. More info at http://ReThinkDisposable.org
How many straws does the U.S. use a day? 500 million. It’s enough to circle the planet more than two-and-a-half times each day.
Several Red Bank restaurants are ready to create change by participating in Clean Water Action’s Straw Free December. The program encourages restaurants not to give out plastic straws with drinks unless specifically requested by a customer. Participating Red Bank Restaurants include Kitch Organic, The Cheese Cave, Toast, Shapiro’s NY Deli, Earth Pizza, Good Karma, That Hot Dog Place, West Side Eatery - and more are expected to sign on.
Straw Free December is an initiative of Clean Water Action’s ReThink Disposable program. ReThink Disposable, a program of Clean Water Action and Clean Water Fund, prevents waste before it starts by working with local governments, businesses and institutions, and customers to minimize single-use disposable packaging in food service to conserve resources, prevent waste and ocean litter pollution.
