Celebrate... Reflect... Preserve...Building African American History in Monmouth County
Make your family and community, church, business, and social history part of Monmouth County history. The T. Thomas Fortune Foundation seeks to expand and diversify the historic record as part of the inauguration of the T. Thomas Fortune Cultural Center* - opening in 2019 (tthomasfortuneculturalcenter.org).
Volunteers will be at the Red Bank Library to scan photos, mementos, flyers and discuss significant family events. (Photos recognizably located in Monmouth County are preferred)
Items gathered will be incorporated into displays at the Cultural Center and shared with the Red Bank and Monmouth County libraries for posterity.
DROP IN Saturday, December 29 - 10-2pm at the Red Bank Library, 84 West Front Street. Scanning takes place in the Local History Room, on the second floor; ask at the circulation desk for elevator access.
*Fortune was a civil rights pioneer and journalist who lived in Red Bank over 100 years ago. His home is a National Historic Landmark which has been restored by developer Roger Mumford.
