Shore Area NOW March Meeting

  • Eatontown Public Library 33 Broad Street Eatontown, NJ, 07724 United States (map)

Hosted by Shore Area NOW

"For our 2nd monthly meeting, we will be giving our members a brief Civic Action 101, which will be a great introduction to activism for people new to social change, and a good refresher for our activist veterans. Afterwards we will be partaking in an Action Event (since there are so many issues to choose from, leave a comment if there is something you would like to focus on!)

Our Civic Action speaker will be Joanne DiDato. Joanne has a long history of social activism. In 1969, '70, and '71, she marched on Washington, DC to protest the Vietnam War. In the 1970's, she was a peace activist living in British Columbia, Canada. In 1983, she became a Briefing Leader with the Hunger Project, an organization dedicated to ending hunger. In 1986, she became a group leader and citizen advocate with RESULTS, an international grassroots citizens' lobby group whose mission is to generate the political will to end hunger and the worst aspects of poverty. She has continued taking action with RESULTS since that time. She is a retired elementary school teacher, and has recently created an Elementary Civics Program to teach young people about social issues and how to advocate for them.

Hope to see everyone there!"
