"Dear Freedom Fighters, Community Partners, Neighbors, and Friends:
Rowan College at Burlington County, New Jersey Women In NAACP (WIN) and Southern Burlington County NAACP invite you to the community screening and discussion of the Academy Award Nominee for Best Documentary, 13TH. This screening will be on Friday, March 31, 2017, at Rowan College at Burlington County, 300 College Circle, Mount Laurel, NJ at 6 PM. This event is free and open to the public. RSVP is requested (https://rcbc_13thscreeningpanel.eventbrite.com/)
The documentary explores the prison labor industry, the criminal justice system and racial inequality in the US.The storyline of 13TH mostly deals with black men and incarceration; consequently, the impact of the prison industrialized complex on other groups remains almost invisible. The panel discussion will begin where the documentary leaves off. The conversation will focus on the impact of the prison industrialized complex on women and girls who are currently the fastest-growing group in the criminal justice system. Panelists will address the differential experiences of women, the alarming growth rate, advocacy efforts as well as alternatives to the incarceration of women and girls.
This is the first of a series of action on the issue of women, youth, and incarceration. Criminal justice reform is a women's issue. Come participate in the conversation, join the action and let's continue the mission of civil rights and social justice together.
